A rose ringed parakeet eats Japanese cherry blossoms, or sakura, in a cherry tree in Izumi no Mori (Izumi Forest Park). These parakeets are not native to Japan, but since they became popular as pets in the 1960s, numerous of these bright colored birds have been released and taken up residence in and around several major cities.
